About Grow Jitsu

JP, founder of Grow Jitsu

I started Grow Jitsu because I kept seeing the same story on repeat:

Talented black belts pouring their heart and soul into opening an academy. Building a team full of students they care about, and then quietly get crushed by the business side.

No real time off. Always one bad month from panic. No money put away. No real asset being built. Just an all stress diet with no end in sight.

Just a lifetime of giving Jiu Jitsu to everyone else and hoping it somehow works out in the end with the business.

I watched CrossFit gym owners go through this 5,10 years ago. Now I’m seeing BJJ academy owners follow the same path:

  • Incredible on the mats
  • Stuck financially
  • Afraid to raise prices
  • Tied to the academy 6,7 days a week

Academy owners don’t have to sacrifice themselves just to do what they love.

I think that’s wrong.

If you have the courage to put mats down in your city and lead from the front, you shouldn’t have to choose between passing on your Jiu Jitsu and providing for your family. You deserve both:

  • A legit academy that produces great Jiu Jitsu athletes
  • And a real business that can pay you, grow, and eventually stand on its own

That’s why I built Grow Jitsu and the Academy Operating System: to give serious BJJ academy owners a simple way to run the business side so their passion doesn’t eat them alive.

What qualifies me to help.

I didn’t start as “the business guy.” I spent more time at the gym then home and still struggled to see growth.

I bought a neglected CrossFit gym that was underpricing membership, disorganized, and wearing the owner out. Over six years I cleaned up the pricing, built simple systems, and grew it into a healthy, stable business. Then COVID hit. We took a massive hit with strict lock downs. But I rebuilt again, and eventually sold the gym with the members and systems intact, so the new owner could step in without losing people.

Along the way I:

  • Spent 15+ years in the fitness industry, including six years owning and operating my own gym
  • Managed and advised on over seven figures of ad spend for gyms and academies
  • Worked directly with fitness businesses and BJJ academies on pricing, retention, and owner-run marketing

In other words: I’ve lived the “stuck owner” chapter, dug myself out, and then helped other gym and academy owners do the same. Grow Jitsu is my version of building a sustainable, profitable, and enjoyable business. I also didn’t want to see BJJ gym owners get caught paying agencies thousands a month, wasting money and feeling burnt out as a result, believe me, I’ve lived that too.

A bit about me.

I’m JP, the founder of Grow Jitsu. I’ve been on and off the mats for about a decade and I’m still grinding my own way toward black belt. Off the mat I’m a husband and dad to two daughters.

I also care about how academies run because I want places I’d actually want to train and trust to send my own kids.  I want to send my kids to an academy where the Jiu Jitsu is legit, the culture is healthy, and the owner isn’t burned out and broke behind the scenes.

How Grow Jitsu actually helps.

Grow Jitsu isn’t a marketing agency. Agencies sell you leads. I help you install a simple business system for your academy, what I call an Academy Operating System,so:

  • Your model makes money instead of leaking it
  • Your student journey keeps new and current students longer
  • Your marketing and follow-up are simple enough you can actually run them

When that’s in place, any lead generation you do finally works the way it should, and the academy starts behaving like a real business, not a very expensive hobby.

Want help on the business side?

If you’re a serious BJJ academy owner who wants your academy to still be here in 10 years, with more students, less stress, and real money left over, book a free BJJ Growth Plan Call.

On that call we’ll:

  • Look at where your academy really is today
  • Diagnose what’s actually holding you back
  • Outline a simple 90-day plan to move you toward the business and legacy you actually want

Then you can decide if you want to install the system with me, or take the plan and run with it on your own.
